Around the Lake February 2016

Categories // News Blog

Round 4 of the SISS was held on 14th of Feb and was another great days racing, with 22 on the line for Pole Ski Stock after lunch it was a very busy time for the riders, marshals, and lap scorers.  Everything went very well and the days racing was great to watch with many spectators moving through the Lake area during the days event. As a reminded to the racers, your race numbers need to be in accordance with the 2015 rule book that we race to.  If not and your number is unreadable you could lose points in the South Island Champs or even worse Nationals for those attending.  For the Rules regarding numbering open/download the PDF rules from NZJSBA (http://nzjetsport.org.nz/info-rules/) Part 8 rule 17.11 covers numbering, Diagrams page 82 shows were they should be placed.

Junior Development Series & Lake Closure 28th Feb 9am-1pm
The Junior Development Series has got underway with the first rider Ben Morris out there showing his skill on the lake.  This class is for riders that are 12-15 years old and has special dispensation from the NZ maritime rules to allow them to practice at Lake Roto Kohatu and Race at events throughout NZ.  To get this dispensation for each rider they apply to CJSC and we then have a Harbour Master approved course they attend to get signed off by the Harbor Master then NZJSBA to show they have the knowledge and competency required to be out the lake.  We run these riders along side the Yamaha Superjet class for our events which works really well as you have novice and skilled riders together able to learn from each other. We also have more young riders currently getting the required dispensation to join Ben in the class.  With this going on you will start to see some of these young guys or girls out practicing at the Lake, the dispensation only applies to those riders who have gone through the process and the CJSC committee has a record of these people, it does not allow for anyone under the age of 15 (NZ Maritime Law) to ride a ski at Lake Roto Kohatu and as such people breaking the rules still risk getting banned and their key being deactivated for a period of time. As part of this series the Lake will be closed to normal use this Sunday 28th Feb from 9am-1pm to allow the Junior development series riders to do the required course being run at our lake.  Sorry for any inconvenience caused to our casual/race riders.

Underage Riders and Non-members entering lake
Lake Roto Kohatu is still covered under the NZ Maritime law (rule 91.5) and as such NO person under the age of 15 years shall be in charge of, or propel or navigate, a power driven vessel that is capable of a proper speed exceeding 10 knots unless he or she is under the direct supervision of a person over the age of 15 years who is in immediate reach of the controls. We are also aware that there have been people who are not members waiting by the gate for a member to enter and then following them in or claiming not to know its a private lake and talking their way in.  Please do not let these people use you to get into the lake and direct them to our website where they can join up just like you have had to. Members seen to be breaking our rules and regulations risk a ban and their key being deactivated for a period of time.

South Island Summer Series 2015/16 Rd 5 and South Island Champs
The Final round of the South Island Summer Series 2015/16 will be held on Sunday the 6th March in conjunction with South Island Champs that is held on Saturday 5th March through to Sunday 6th March.  This will be a very busy weekend for all involved and if there is anyone out there who is able to come down and help with marshaling out on the lake please get in touch.  We appreciate any help we can get and if we have more people it means we can cycle people out on the lake rather than having particular people stuck on the lake all day which becomes very tiresome. As per normal this means the lake is closed to normal use Saturday 5th March through to Sunday 6th March while racing is on. Prize giving is being held at the Race Course Hotel on Race Course Rd from 5:30pm on Sunday 6th march after the racing has concluded. We look forward to a great weekends racing and seeing you all there.  Also don't forget to enter the NZ Nationals being held at Kinloch, Lake Taupo before the cutoff date.
